Art

At Dever Elementary, we promote art instruction by introducing students to art techniques and materials that build their skills.

Art instruction at Dever supports core classroom learning by linking up with and reinforcing core math and English language arts concepts, while also serving as an independent path of learning that engages imagination, problem solving, teamwork, and emotional growth.

Art projects are built around exposure to the work of professional artists and art traditions, both past and present. Each week, students interactively learn about an artist or tradition through games and activities, and participate in a related class project where they practice specific techniques of that art form.

Dever's younger learners engage in important hand/eye coordination skills, including folding, tying, and cutting, while older students develop working habits of drafting and exchanging feedback.

The practice of any art form requires discipline, perseverance, and the ability to work with others. These traits are needed every day in the Art Studio and align with Dever's core values of Self Control, Grit, and Citizenship - as our students assume the role of an artist in the classroom, they also become stronger members of the Dever community.
